Privacy Policy
Last updated: 16 September 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information LicencePrep collects when you use licenceprep.ca or our mobile app, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. In this policy, "LicencePrep", "we", "us" and "our" mean the operator of licenceprep.ca.
We handle personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy laws.
1. Information we collect
a. Information you give us
- Account details: your name or username, and your email address.
- Password: stored only as a cryptographic hash. We never store or have access to your actual password.
- Profile picture, if you choose to upload one.
- Messages you send us through the contact form, and reviews or testimonials you choose to submit.
- Newsletter subscription, if you sign up for one.
- Notification preferences — whether you want daily, weekly or monthly progress reports and reminders before a subscription expires.
b. Information created as you use LicencePrep
- Learning activity: the practice tests you start and finish, the answers you give, your scores, the time taken, your attempt history and any certificates generated.
- Saved items: bookmarks and favourites.
- Access records: which provinces, licence categories and test packages your account is entitled to use, and when that access expires.
c. Purchase information
- The plan you bought, the amount, the currency, the date, the status of the transaction and the identifiers PayPal returns for it.
- We never see or store your card number, CVV or bank details. Payment is handled entirely by PayPal on PayPal's own systems.
d. If you sign in with Google
- We receive and store your Google account identifier, email address and basic profile information (name and profile picture).
- We request only two permissions: your email address and your basic profile. We do not request or receive access to Gmail, Drive, Contacts, Calendar or any other Google service, and we do not use Google account data for advertising.
e. Technical information collected automatically
- Your IP address, browser or app version, device type, the pages and features you request, and the date and time of each request.
- Diagnostic records when something goes wrong, so we can find and fix faults.
- A push notification token, if you use our mobile app and allow notifications.
2. Cookies and similar technologies
When you sign in, we store a session token in your browser so you stay signed in between pages. Our content delivery and security provider also sets cookies needed to serve and protect the site.
We do not run advertising networks, third-party analytics or social media tracking pixels on this site. We do not build advertising profiles, and we do not track you across other websites.
3. How we use your information
- To create your account, verify your email address and let you sign in securely, including resetting a forgotten password.
- To give you the practice tests and features you are entitled to, whether free or purchased.
- To record your results, show your progress and history, and produce certificates.
- To process purchases and confirm them with PayPal, and to keep records of what was bought.
- To send you service messages you need to receive — email verification, password resets, purchase confirmations and expiry reminders.
- To send progress reports and notifications only where you have turned them on.
- To answer the messages you send us.
- To keep the service secure: detecting fraudulent payments, abuse, and unauthorised access attempts.
- To diagnose faults, improve the tests we offer and understand which features are used.
- To meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.
We rely on your consent, and on the necessity of processing your information to provide a service you have asked for. You may withdraw consent at any time, as described in section 8, though we may then be unable to continue providing the service.
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only in these cases:
- PayPal — to take payment and confirm it. See PayPal's privacy statement.
- Google — if you choose to sign in with Google, and to deliver push notifications to our mobile app through Firebase Cloud Messaging.
- Our hosting, content delivery and email providers — to run the servers, protect the site from attack, and deliver the emails described above. They act on our instructions and may not use your information for their own purposes.
- Where the law requires it — to comply with a valid legal request, to enforce our Terms & Conditions, or to protect the rights, safety and property of LicencePrep, our users or the public.
- In a business transfer — if LicencePrep is sold or reorganised, your information may transfer to the new operator, who would remain bound by this policy.
5. Where your information is stored
Our servers and those of our service providers may be located outside Canada. Where that is the case, your personal information is subject to the laws of those countries and may be accessible to their courts and authorities under lawful process. We take reasonable steps to ensure our providers protect your information to a comparable standard.
6. How long we keep it
- Account and learning records — for as long as your account is open. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove or anonymise your personal information, except where we must keep it (see below).
- Purchase records — kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires, even after an account is closed.
- Technical and security logs — kept only as long as needed to run, secure and troubleshoot the service, then deleted.
7. How we protect it
- All traffic between you and LicencePrep is encrypted with HTTPS.
- Passwords are stored only as salted hashes and cannot be read by us or recovered.
- Card details never reach our systems.
- Access to production systems and personal information is limited to the people who need it.
No system can be guaranteed completely secure. If a breach occurs that creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected users and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as the law requires.
8. Your choices and your rights
You may:
- Access the personal information we hold about you, and ask how it has been used and disclosed.
- Correct anything inaccurate or incomplete — most details can be changed in your account settings.
- Delete your account and the personal information attached to it, subject to the records we must keep by law.
- Withdraw consent to optional processing, including notifications and the newsletter. Progress reports and reminders can be turned off in your notification settings; marketing emails have an unsubscribe link; push notifications can be turned off in your device settings.
- Unlink Google sign-in by contacting us, or by removing LicencePrep's access in your Google account's security settings.
- Complain. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Write to it@licenceprep.ca to make any of these requests. We will confirm your identity before acting, and respond within 30 days.
9. Children
LicencePrep is intended for people preparing for a Canadian driver's licence test and is not directed at children under 13, from whom we do not knowingly collect personal information. If you are under the age of majority in your province, please use LicencePrep with the involvement of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service changes. The "last updated" date at the top always shows the current version. If a change materially affects how we use your personal information, we will give notice on the site or by email before it takes effect.
11. Contact us
Questions about this policy, or about how your personal information is handled, go to it@licenceprep.ca. This is also the address for access, correction and deletion requests.
